Not singing the blues, but lovin' this chambray blue dress: Simplicity 1059 Review

Happy New Year y'all! It's a new year, full of new possibilities. In looking back on 2016,I must say that I really had a great year, introspectively speaking.

In 2016, I really embraced all of who I am; learned more about myself and being okay with that! I say being being okay with that, simply because, we tend to allow ourselves to be boxed in, or we allow others to box us into their mold of who we should be according to their perception of us.

2016 taught me, that it's quite okay if you don't fit in a box, that truly being "Fearlessly Fierce"  ,  means to walk in "YOUR PURPOSE"!

For instance, I/you, may never be a seamstress that plays by the rules, making a muslin until you get the perfected fit or have the most couture finishes.

That's okay too! 2017, I plan to walk even more fearless in my purpose, in whatever capacity that it may be  for me..

Pattern Review below: Y'all didn't think that I would leave y'all hanging did you?!
LOL!

I am wishing each and everyone of you a wonderful and prosperous New Year. I hope that this is the year that you receive every desire that is in your heart. I mean this from the bottom of my heart.

~Be Blessed and Nothin' Less and Continue to Stay Fearlessly Fierce! ~Candice

Pattern Review:Pattern Description: Jiffy dress, which is originally from 1969, with a V-neck dress with long sleeves, or sleeveless,  lapped zipper in back, and optional sash or scarf.

Pattern Sizing:14-22  I made a 16 at the bust and graded out to an 18 at the waist and hip area.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I do believe so, minus the sash. With carrying majority of my weight in the middle section; sashes just aren't my thing, ya know?!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions are beginner friendly, and the dress comes together in a "Jiffy". I just really wanted to say that; you have no idea, lol!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the retro look of this pattern and how effortlessly the pattern comes together. I believe it's only three or four pattern pieces. I don't have any dislikes with this pattern. However, I did notice the sleeves were a little snug, not uncomfortably so, but still something to note.

Fabric Used: Chambray

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I left off the zipper, as I was able to pull this over my head and let's just say, getting something over this massive sized head is no easy feat, so there you have it,lol! I also left off the sash. I am more of an apple shape and prefer not to have anything around my waist. I also took a deeper hem. I think the pattern calls for a 2 1/4 hem and I made a 3 inch hem. I just liked the proportions better, which helped to keep the retro vibe of the pattern, seeing as I omitted the sash.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I doubt I would sew this one again, but I am thrilled to have this one in my wardrobe. As it will play nice in the mild temperatures here for both winter and spring. I would highly recommend this to others, especially beginners. Beginners, will get a chance to work on their finishing, facings, zippers and hand-stitching.

Conclusion:  This is a great pattern and I'm glad to have this one apart of my wardrobe.

  6. Phone is Candice…you are definitely "fearlessly fierce"! The total outfit (including your hair) is awesome! I love this dress on you and you should definitely make it again, maybe in a sleeveless or cap sleeve white version for summer! You're also very sweet, I can't imagine you allowing anyone to "put you in a box", you are much too beautiful for that!

Also, you just gave me another (and major) goal for 2017… I want to walk in "my" purpose too! I can so relate to your comments above about putting myself in a box and allowing others to do so as well. I no longer want to be that person and I want to thank you so much for that! Happy New Year and blessings for 2017!
